Educational Videos

The Porphyrias Consortium of the NIH-supported Rare Disease Clinical Research Network and the American Porphyria Foundation hosted an educational symposium in January 2018 entitled “Heme Biosynthesis and the Porphyrias: Recent Advances.” This important symposium focused on the most recent findings on the molecular biology and regulation of heme biosynthesis and the clinical features, pathophysiology, and current treatment of the acute hepatic and erythropoietic porphyrias. Videos from this symposium are available here to further education on the diagnosis, management and treatment of porphyria.

Educational Videos include:

Heme Biosynthesis - (J.D. Phillips, PhD)
Porphyria Genetics - (R.J. Desnick, MD, PhD)
Acute Hepatic Porphyrias: Metabolic Defects, Pathophysiology & Clinical Manifestations - (H.L. Bonkovsky, MD)
Acute Hepatic Porphyrias: Diagnosis and Current Management - (K.E. Anderson, MD)
Porphyria Cutanea Tarda (PCT) - (A.K. Singal, MD)
Congenital Erythropoietic Porphyria (CEP) - (R.J. Desnick, MD, PhD)
Erythropoietic Protoporphyria (EPP) & X-Linked Protoporphyria (XLP) – (M. Balwani, MD, MS)
