EPP at Camp Sundown

  • Thursday, June 27, 2019

Since 1996, Camp Sundown has provided children and families with the opportunity to take part in a unique camp experience. At Camp Sundown days and nights are swapped, allowing campers to partake in indoor activities during the day and at night they are able to enjoy outside activities while staying protected from the sun. Not only are there activities for kids, but families are welcome to attend as well to share stories and support. The first week of camp is dedicated to EPP children and their families in the US and Canada! This year it will be July 8-12, 2019. Kristen Wheeden will also be hosting a Patient Education and Support meeting at the camp for attendees.

The camp began in after its founders, Dan and Caren Mahar's, daughter was diagnosed with Xeroderma Pigmentosa. The Marhas wanted their daughter to be able to participate in childhood activities, such as camp, despite her sensitivity. The camp took originally too place in Poughkeepsie, NY until 2003, when they were able to build a retreat house in Craryville, NY.
